Terms of Use

To ensure public safety for the facility and surrounding residents, as well as to provide a safe, comfortable stay and enjoyable experience of Japanese culture for our guests, we have established the following terms of use based on Article 10 of the “Terms and Conditions for Comprehensive Services Including Accommodation.” Failure to comply with these rules may result in termination of all services, including accommodation, lessons, lectures, and use of facilities, in accordance with Article 11 of the “Terms and Conditions for Comprehensive Services Including Accommodation.”

In these terms, the person who applies for the “Comprehensive Services Including Accommodation” and those listed in the application form will be referred to as “guest(s)” or “user(s).” “Hanyu.no.obasanchi” will be referred to as “the facility.”
1.Smoking Policy
    a.Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the facility, in the garden, and on the surrounding roads (including electronic cigarettes). If you wish to smoke, please notify us, and we will inform you of the designated smoking area.
    b.If smoking or the presence of cigarette butts is confirmed either visually or by odor, a deodorization and cleaning fee of $200 (or the equivalent in Japanese yen) will be charged. Additionally, if smoking causes damage to tatami mats, fittings, shoji screens, or other furnishings, we will charge the repair costs along with compensation for business disruption.
    c.Before check-out, a staff member will inspect the room together with the guest.
2.Prohibited Items for Bringing into the Facility
    a.Animals, birds, and pets. ※Due to the comprehensive nature of the cooking class service, and under the guidance of the health center, service dogs for persons with disabilities are also included. Thank you for your understanding.
    b.Excessively large quantities of items.
    c.Items that emit strong odors or loud noises.
    d.Explosives, flammable oils, and other combustible or flammable substances.
    e.Firearms and swords that are not permitted by law.
    f.Marijuana, narcotics, stimulants, and other prohibited synthetic drugs.
※e.f. Violations will be immediately reported to the police as mandated by Japanese criminal and other legal codes.
3.Consideration for Nearby Residents
Our facility is located in a very quiet, traditional residential area. Many of the nearby residents are elderly and go to bed early. If any of the following behaviors are observed, we may refuse continued use of accommodations and services to maintain the public harmony of the facility and the surrounding residents. In serious situations, we may request police intervention.
    a.If a complaint is received from nearby residents, regardless of the reason.
    b.If you enter the premises of neighboring homes, regardless of the reason.
    c.If loud voices or noises are created inside or outside the facility.
    d.If you are intoxicated or leave the facility while intoxicated.
    e.Please refrain from walking in the garden after 9:00 PM.
    f.Please refrain from going out after curfew hours.
4.Regarding Food and Beverage Orders or Bringing Items from Outside the Facility
    a.We do not allow food or beverage delivery orders from outside the facility.
    b.Please consume items purchased from supermarkets or convenience stores primarily in the living room. If you wish to eat or drink in your accommodation room (tatami room), please do so responsibly and without violating etiquette.
    c.Bringing in or consuming large amounts of alcohol is prohibited.
5.Regarding Disturbing Behavior
    a.Please refrain from gambling or engaging in activities that disrupt public morals within the facility, on its premises, or in the surrounding area. Any acts that violate Japanese law, including the Penal Code, will be reported to the police as required by law.
    b.Do not relocate, alter, or modify any equipment or furnishings inside or outside the facility. Costs for damages, breakages, or losses will be charged at actual cost. This does not apply in cases of force majeure.
    c.Do not remove any equipment, furnishings, or books (including novels, comics, or photo books) from their designated locations within the facility. Any loss may result in a charge for replacement. In cases of intentional removal, a report will be filed with the police.
    d.Photography or video recording within the facility and on its premises is permitted only for personal use. Any filming or recording with the intent of commercial use, as well as the unauthorized uploading of privately taken materials for business purposes, is strictly prohibited.
    e.Bringing external guests into the facility is strictly prohibited.
    f.Please refrain from using the facility while intoxicated, either within or outside its premises.
6.Regarding the Use of Guest Rooms
    a.Please do not use the guest room for any purpose other than accommodation.
    b.Allowing visitors other than the registered guests as per Article 7 of the “Terms and Conditions of Comprehensive Services Including Accommodation” to stay overnight is strictly prohibited.
    c.The use of heating appliances, cooking devices, or any equipment that generates heat, other than those provided by the facility, is strictly prohibited within the guest rooms.
7.Regarding the Use of Toilets and Bathrooms
    a.After using the toilet’s cleaning function, please make sure to press the stop button. If you are unsure how to stop the water, please report it to our staff immediately. Failure to report may result in water damage and repair costs may be charged.
    b.The toilet floor is one step lower than the adjacent hallway. Please be careful to avoid tripping when using it.
    c.Before leaving the bathroom, please ensure you dry your body and head thoroughly.
    d.Please be considerate of the next user by removing any hair from the drain. Tissues are provided on the left side just inside the bathroom door.
    e.The shelves inside the bathroom are not designed to support heavy weights. Please do not lean or sit on them as they may break, posing a risk of injury.
    f.The use of the bathroom is allowed until 11:00 PM.
    g.If you wish to use the washing machine or dryer, please inform us in advance. Usage is permitted until 11:00 PM.
8.Use of the Kitchen and Living Room
    a.The kitchen is only available for cooking activities related to Japanese cooking lessons and for serving and clearing dishes before and after meal times (dinner and breakfast). If you need to use it for special reasons, please inform us in advance. The kitchen closes at 11:30 PM.
    b.The living room closes at 11:30 PM. It cannot be used beyond this time.
9.Other Facilities
Please do not enter rooms with a “STAFF ONLY” sign or open any storage doors in the hallway or living room.
10.Room Locking and Safety Confirmation
    a.As our facility is a regular house, there are no specific locks for the guest rooms (tatami rooms).
    b.If you leave the guest room for lessons or lectures, please store your valuables in the safety box and ensure it is locked to prepare for the unlikely event of intruders. Alternatively, you may keep your valuables in a location (e.g., kitchen) within your sight.
    c.For safety, when leaving the guest room, please turn off any electrical or electronic devices you brought and unplug them from the outlet.
    d.Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout the facility. Please refrain from any actions that may cause a fire.
    e.Before checkout, our staff will accompany you to check for forgotten items and confirm the room’s condition.
    f.Forgotten items will be stored at our facility for a certain period after discovery and will then be handled per lost property laws. Shipping costs for forgotten items will be borne by the guest. Our responsibility regarding forgotten items is in accordance with Article 16, Clause 2 of the “Terms of Service Including Accommodation.”
11.Disclaimer of Liability
    a.The facility is not responsible for any injuries or accidents incurred while using the facilities. Please exercise caution, particularly in slippery conditions in the bathroom due to soap or shampoo, injuries caused by leaning or sitting on shelves or towel racks in the bathroom, and tripping or injuries due to level differences in the toilet area.
    b.The facility is not liable for injuries, burns, or accidents caused by user negligence during Japanese cooking lessons. Please strictly adhere to kitchen usage rules and precautions. In the event of an injury or burn, immediate first aid will be provided. If necessary, we will guide you to a hospital; however, refunds for lessons or lectures canceled due to such incidents will not be provided.
    c.The facility is not responsible for any loss or theft within the premises. Guests are responsible for the safekeeping of their valuables and belongings. The use of the safety box in the guest room is recommended.
    d.Refunds will not be issued for lessons or lectures that guests cannot participate in due to illness, injury, accidents, or other reasons.
12.Payment, Advance Payments, and Tips
    a.Please settle payments for chargeable drinks and merchandise either at the time of purchase or before check-out. Payments can be made in cash (in Japanese yen only, based on the exchange rate of the day) or via credit card.
    b.We cannot make advance payments on your behalf for shopping expenses, tickets, taxi fares, postage stamps, or shipping fees for luggage.
    c.We do not accept payments by check or in foreign currency, nor do we provide currency exchange services. Thank you for your understanding.
    d.Tipping is not necessary.
13.Refusal of Accommodation for Organized Crime Groups and Those Who Cause Significant Disturbance
In accordance with Article 6, Clause 6 of the “Terms and Conditions for Comprehensive Services Including Accommodation,” the use of our facility is prohibited for organized crime groups or individuals whose actions may violate public order and morals. If such facts are discovered after a reservation has been made or during the stay, the use of the facility will be immediately terminated.
