【Japanese Cooking Lessons】

This is a lesson to prepare Japanese dishes suitable for dinner, such as sushi and gyudon. You can choose one lesson from the options below.
Each lesson can be adapted for halal requirements. If desired, please inform us at the time of booking.

Sushi Lesson

Sushi is a representative dish of Japan, very popular both domestically and internationally.

What you will learn: How to roll maki sushi, shape nigiri sushi, and make miso soup, etc.
Menu: Thin roll sushi, thick roll sushi, 3 types of nigiri sushi, chawanmushi, miso soup, pickles

Shokado Bento Lesson

A simplified version of kaiseki cuisine, with dishes arranged in a square box.

What you will learn: How to make temari sushi, slice sashimi, and fry tempura, etc.
Menu: Sashimi, simmered dish, grilled dish, vinegared dish, rice, miso soup

Gyudon Lesson

Donburi (rice bowls topped with various ingredients) is a popular dish among men and young people.

What you will learn: Basics of sweet-savory seasoning, how to make tofu from soy milk, and how to prepare miso soup.
Menu: Gyudon (beef bowl), miso soup, handmade tofu, seasonal pickles

Ramen Lesson

We will make soup, fried chicken, and dumplings from a whole chicken.

What you’ll learn: How to season ramen soup, how to prepare and wrap dumpling filling, and the basics of seasoning fried chicken.
Menu: Chicken Paitan Soy Sauce Ramen, Fried Chicken, Pan-Fried or Boiled Dumplings

Udon Lesson

We will make soup starting with traditional Japanese dashi, and noodles from scratch.

What you will learn: How to prepare basic dashi, season the soup, make noodles, and fry tempura
Menu: Udon, tempura, inari sushi, seasonal pickles

Tofu Variety Lesson

This lesson is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, focusing on diverse tofu-based dishes.

What you will learn: The versatility of tofu dishes and how to make dashi without animal-based ingredients
Menu: Fried tofu, shiraae (tofu salad), yuba ankake, seasonal pickles, miso soup with freeze-dried tofu, rice

Notes

  • The same lesson will be conducted for the entire group.
  • For convenience in cooking, we may prepare more than the required quantity, but the basic fee includes the cost of ingredients for one person, lesson fee, and facility usage fee.
  • Ingredients such as vegetables may change depending on the season.
  • Breakfast lessons are optional.
  • Due to time constraints, participants will only handle the main parts of the cooking process.

抹茶ワークショップ

【Matcha workshop】

The word “Matcha” has become widely recognized around the world, but in fact, many Japanese people have never experienced the tea ceremony.
We hope you will enjoy the world of tea ceremony along with delicious traditional Japanese sweets.
This workshop includes Japanese sweets and does not use any animal-based ingredients.
※Those who have applied for the kimono rental can participate in the matcha workshop while wearing a kimono.

書道ワークショップ

【Calligraphy workshop】

Choose one of your favorite kanji (from the provided options) and complete it as a finished work. We will carefully guide you on how to hold and use the brush.

Example kanji: 愛_love, 夢_dream, 犬_dog, 猫_cat, or the kanji for your zodiac animal.

※The zodiac in Japan is represented by assigning a different animal to each year using kanji characters.

宿泊(一泊のみ)

【Lodging (1 night only)】

This is an 8-tatami mat Japanese-style room with a “tokonoma” alcove and a private garden.
A “tokonoma” is a small elevated alcove above the tatami floor where hanging scrolls, ornaments, or flowers are displayed.
Please enjoy viewing one of Japan’s traditional cultural elements, such as hanging scrolls (narrow paintings or calligraphy), ornaments, or flowers.

Regarding Usage

  • You are expected to set up your futon yourself, but assistance is available if needed.
  • Since there are no nearby convenience stores or supermarkets, water, soft drinks, and small snacks in the refrigerator of the Japanese-style room are provided for free.
  • If you need anything, we can drive you to the nearest convenience store (open 24 hours) or drugstore (open 9:00–22:00).
  • The schedule is busy from check-in until the evening. After 22:30, the living room and kitchen will be closed, so please relax in your room.
  • We offer free rentals of analog games like jigsaw puzzles and playing cards, as well as manga (some in English). You can also enjoy books and photo collections from the library corner in the entrance hall in your room.

― Plus Service Overview ―

Kimono Rental

Experience the world you’ve seen in manga, anime, or movies by wearing a kimono and participating in activities like matcha workshops or Japanese cooking lessons.
※Includes kimono dressing service. Assistance with removing the kimono is also available.
※A kappa apron (kimono-specific apron) will be provided for free during cooking lessons.
※No need to worry about compensation even if the kimono gets accidentally stained. Enjoy your experience with peace of mind.

Experiences Available in a Kimono

  • You are free to take photos within the facility or in the Japanese-style garden.
  • You can participate in a matcha workshop while wearing a kimono.
  • You can join Japanese cooking lessons in a kimono. A kappougi (kimono-specific apron) will be provided free of charge.
  • Experience traditional Japanese toys, such as battledore (hanetsuki), marbles (ohajiki), and beanbags (otedama). Toy rentals are free of charge.

Notes

  • You will wear the kimono provided by us.
  • Regarding height: Please check the size chart carefully.
  • Regarding body type: Traditional Japanese kimonos are tailored for average body types due to their fixed sewing width.
  • The kimono rental is intended for participation in the matcha lesson and dinner cooking lesson. Walking around town in a kimono is not permitted.
  • Compared to regular clothing, wearing a kimono may feel tight-fitting. Please decide when to take it off based on your physical condition, even if it’s before or during a lesson.
  • In summer, yukata will be provided instead.

Onigiri Lesson

A breakfast-focused lesson.

What you’ll learn: How to shape onigiri (rice balls), how to make happo-dashi (a versatile Japanese stock), and how to cook a Japanese-style rolled omelet.
Menu: Three types of onigiri, Japanese-style rolled omelet, ohitashi (blanched vegetables), pickles, and miso soup.
※The vegetables and onigiri fillings may vary depending on the lesson.

Japanese Sake Lecture

Includes a tasting of three types of sake.

Recommended pairing cooking lessons: Sushi Lesson, Shokado Bento Lesson, Tofu Lesson.
※For other cooking lessons, we recommend scheduling the lecture after the meal.
What you’ll learn: The sake production process, sake types, and tasting techniques.
※The image is for reference only. The sake varieties may vary depending on the lesson. We will provide three selected types.

Japanese Wine Lecture

Includes a glass each of red wine (Muscat Bailey A) and white wine (Koshu).

Recommended pairing cooking lessons: Sushi Lesson, Shokado Bento Lesson, Tofu Lesson, Beef Bowl Lesson, Udon Lesson.
※For other cooking lessons, we recommend scheduling the lecture after the meal.
What you’ll learn: Characteristics of Japanese wine grape varieties, pairing with food, and tasting techniques.
※The image is for reference only. The wine varieties may vary depending on the lesson.

  • 15:00 Matcha workshop ※If there are 3 participants for kimono dressing, the workshop will start at 15:30.
  • 17:00 Japanese cooking lesson
  • 19:00 Tasting (dinner) time & Japanese sake lecture (for Plus Service applicants)
  • 20:30 Free time & bath & optional free lessons (upon request)

  • 6:45 Onigiri Lesson (for those who applied for Plus service)
  • 7:45 Breakfast tasting time ※The living room tea bar & snacks (e.g., biscuits and light refreshments) are available free of charge.

  • 9:30 Departure preparation Check for forgotten items and room inspection with Hanyu’s Aunt
